THE DUTCH HOUSE
By Ann Patchett
DUTCH HOUSE Ann Patchett It takes courage to write fairy tales today. , When everything in the world is on the verge of collapse, cultural expectations seem to be common (at least in the West), and serious art will become a respected art form, appearing in books, TV, movies, or theaters to make you sweat , It should make you sweat. Ann Patchett doesn't want you to sweat. As he said in his 2016 introduction for The Guardian, “I have been writing the same book all my life: You are in the same family, and suddenly you are in another family. It’s not your choice. You can’t leave. Home". ... In "Dutch House", a family is being built with blood and love. Are they not fairy tales? The novel winds its way through the forest, and is not eager to end, nor is it eager to end from there. The ending is completely unexpected. But if you let yourself go with Pachter, you will find wealth at the end of the road. And you will not enter the oven. I consciously mentioned Hansel and Gretel. Dutch Home "This is the story of brothers and sisters, This is the story of Maeve and Danny Conroy. They are brothers and sisters who grew up comfortably in a home owned by the community (and the whole family) in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, because Dutch Home knows it. "A tribute to the Dutch". The father of the children bought a house for his wife before the birth of the child: the house was very large, very complicated, with gorgeous furniture everywhere, and a large number of dead van Hughes. Bix, this is the smell of perfume; l Conroys doesn't even paint a portrait of VanHobik. This is Danny, the narrator of the novel. In these photos: "Mr. and Mrs. Van Hobby, I have not heard of their portraits. Their portraits are very old, but not very old... In their frame, you are also very close. Friends, married, I always thought that someone cut it in half must be a big picture. "Before these photos, the novel begins:" Our father took Andrea into it for the first time Dutch house, Sandy. Our housekeeper walked into my sister's room and let us go downstairs. "Your father has a friend who wants to meet you," she said.
The Dutch House is also a novel about wealth, his property, his loss and his return. After his father died suddenly, Andrea drove with Maeve and Danny (she was allowed to bring a suitcase) and the family's beloved servants Sandy and Jocelyn. They use the rest of the book to mourn the loss of their homes and most of their money (although Danny believes Maeve encouraged him to burn them), even if they continue to lead normal lives. Real estate like his father. It sounds very angry, even angry, speaking so harshly; to be honest, I'm a little surprised I don't mind. The goal of novels like Dutch House is to get you into trouble and take care of the characters, no matter who they are or their circumstances, and Pachter did it. [In her By the Book interview, Anne Patchett recommended Michelle Obama, Richard Powers, Anne Lamotte, Roxanne Gay, and Jacqueline Woodson. Except for Andrea’s main villain, this novel has almost no sharp edges. I always find myself wishing that the narrative is so smooth, if not luminous, although Conroy, . However, what he (sometimes) wants is not what Pachter wants to achieve. Problems, but they almost always deal with them eventually. The ending at the Dutch House was beautiful and pleasant.
